River Kayaking in Spectacular Estes Park, Colorado

For those who love Estes Park and who happen to love river kayaking, there is excellent news! The first phase of the latest major urban renewal project for the City is a kayak run.

The course extends from the west side of Performance Park and continues through the Spruce Street Bridge. When work is completed, the run will continue east to downtown Estes.

So far, the run is about two-and-a-half football fields in length and offers pools and eddies for kayakers to steer through. You will find fairly easy moving water here, but no matter what your skill level, this outdoor experience will be a unique one! After an afternoon of play in the water, you can spread a quilt on the ground and enjoy a picnic beside the informal, outdoor amphitheater adjacent to the start point for this run. The shell backs up to a beautiful, steep rock face and is surrounded by evergreens. Schedule your visit to coincide with one of the outdoor concerts (featuring all types of music) scheduled for the Performance Park Pavillion. Check the calendar.

Directions: Go west on Elkhorn, the main street through downtown Estes Park. Go through the main downtown area to Performance Park at 417 W. Elkhorn (just west of the Silver Moon Inn on Spruce Drive).
