Wintertime in the Estes area is the perfect time and place for. . .
Snowshoeing
With the advent of smaller, lighter snowshoes, this is one of the
fastest growing sports in America and the Park has wonderful, scenic
trails to explore.
Wildlife Watching
Many animals move to the lower elevation of town for winter food.
Elk like the golf course. Deer, our shrubs. Check out the
pictures section for recent
wildlife photos.
Cross Country Skiing
High trails in the National Park are scenic cross
country ski trails in the winter.
Hiking
Low trails in the National Park that accumulate
little snow are open for winter hikes.
Ice Skating
There are several ponds that are popular for skating.
Sledding
Hidden Valley and Bear Lake in the National Park
are popular sledding/tubing areas.
Downhill Skiing
Eldora
ski area is just an hour south on the Peak to Peak Scenic
Byway

Higher elevations in Rocky Mountain National Park get more snow and are colder. The Park is open all year but Trail Ridge Road over the continental divide closes for winter. The RockyMountainNationalPark.com weather page has temperature links for Bear Lake and Willow Park at treeline.
