Colorado Snowshoeing in Rocky Mountain National Park
When summer is gone and the trails are covered with snow you don't have to put away your hiking boots & daypack. With the addition of winter clothing, a pair of snowshoes and a set of poles, you can enjoy Colorado Snowshoeing in Rocky Mountain National Park throughout the winter season. With the advent of smaller, lighter snowshoes, this is one of the fastest growing sports in America.
This winter sport has no expensive lessons, lift tickets, or lift lines, and most people can get the hang of it with very little practice! Many weekends you will have the trail almost to yourself to enjoy the solitude and beauty surrounding you. Many of the lodges below offer snowshoe checkout.
OR go to a snowshoe rental shop in town and rent a pair for about $10 a day. The Bear Lake area is a perfect place to start with its short lake hikes. Dress for the cold and remember that for most people, a short, easy summer hike (Emerald lake) is a moderate snowshoe hike. View the Bear Lake/Glacier Gorge Trails - all easily accessible from Bear Lake Road which is kept open in the winter.
