In 1920 the National Park to Park Highway started promoting road trips to western national parks. Estes Park makes the list of perfect western road trip destinations. It is a great base camp for scenic drives.
Motels sprang up along the highways 7, 34 and 36 into town to serve motorist visitors. Some of these motels still exist today, upgraded to fit modern tastes, and are often the most affordable choice available.
