No timed entry permit? No problem!

Forgot to get a timed entry permit to RMNP? Here’s a list of activities and things to do in Estes Park that don’t involve a timed entry permit to the national park:

Little known hack

So you forgot to get a timed entry permit, but you want to see Rocky Mountain National Park while you’re in town, consider this awesome work-a-around:

Take a guided tour! Most tour companies include an entry permit with their fees. You’ll have the benefit of an expert guide showing you the best of RMNP.

National Park Gateway Stables – tour RMNP by horseback on a safe and scenic ride.

Kirks Mountain Adventures – guided hiking tours, llama assisted backpacking treks, or fly fishing with all the equipment, gear and planning done for you!

Rocky Mountain Conservancy – scenic ecology bus tours led by local naturalists. Great way to learn while you take in the views!

Access other wild areas!

Great news – national forests don’t require a permit! And Roosevelt National Forest offers some amazing hikes outside of the National Park. Here are a couple of our favorites:

Lily Mountain Trail – This is a 3.8 mile, out and back trail with about 1,300 ft of elevation gain. All Trails says, “The view from the top is absolutely incredible, making the steep climb to the summit of Lily Mountain worth every step.”

Crosier Mountain Trail – A 9.9 mile, out and back trail with about 3,200 ft of elevation gain. According to All Trails, “This scenic hike begins from the Garden Gate Trailhead and heads uphill via a rocky path. It has a nice mix of shaded and exposed sections along the way and absolutely gorgeous views. The path is steep in sections and gains elevation via relentless switchbacks. The path winds through forests and meadows. In spring, the grass fields are filled with colorful wildflowers.”

And if you want to explore with a little more oomph, consider booking a wild ride with Backbone Adventures. You can select your desired off-road vehicle and choose between a number of different trail options, all allowing you to see some incredible views and wildlife at a heart-racing pace!
