Trail Ridge Road is Open for the 2024 Season:

Trail Ridge Road is the nation’s highest continuously paved road. Viewing the spectacular alpine tundra from your vehicle as you drive the winding, high elevation roads is a sight to behold! It spans Rocky Mountain National Park to connect the towns of Estes Park and Grand Lake, Colorado. At its highest point, Trail Ridge Road reaches 12,183 ft elevation.

Typically, the road opens around Memorial Day weekend, and stays open until early fall when the NPS closes it for the winter season.

Most people are surprised to know that temporary closings can occur in “summer” and “fall” because of snow storms! It’s always best to call 970-586-1222  before you visit RMNP to get the latest on road conditions.

Keep in mind that you’ll need a timed entry permit to drive Trail Ridge Road. Please read this page for more information on the 2024 timed entry permit.
